Presidents' Day Weekend brought the annual Maine Winter Romp, with over a hundred Land Rovers descending on Benton, Maine to wheel on the Sebasticook Millennium Green. This event, running constantly since the mid-1990s, is managed by long-time Land Rover enthusiast Bruce Fowler, who has -- with the help of a devoted group of volunteers -- turned "Romp" from a small gathering to one of North America's largest Land Rover events. This year, we're sharing the event from the perspective of Willow Riston, a 12-year-old off-road enthusiast who has been wheeling with her father, Atlantic British's Senior Retail Sales Representative Eric Riston, since she was ten months old.

It’s easy to assume that the Rubicon Trail would be an overrated experience. It’s the most iconic off-road trail in America, the hub of West Coast rock crawling culture, an iconic trim line on a “lesser 4x4,” and the wistful dream of every serious off-roader. Could it really be that great when it’s become entirely saturated in the 4x4 world? Over four days with the Northern California Land Rover Club on their annual “Rovicon” event, my answer is the opposite: the Rubicon is one of the most underrated and authentic off-road experiences in America.

The overland world has exploded in the past few years, turning what was once just fancy backcountry car camping into one of the outdoor industry’s most significant segments. It’s also generated a large community - a multi-marque group of off-road camping enthusiasts. One of the longest-standing establishments connecting this community is the Overland Adventure Rallies, a series of three events in the USA and Canada.

In 2010, some Canadian adventure motorcycle enthusiasts planned an informal rally across Eastern Ontario, which they dubbed the Roaming Rally. Twelve years later, the tenth running of the event brought forty 4x4s of all marques and forty motorcycles together to explore a network of idyllic backcountry roads within spitting distance of Canada’s national capital.

Spring is here, and that means that the Land Rover events season is back in full swing. On the East Coast, you can always count on the Rover Owners Association of Virginia (ROAV) to do two things at an event: draw a great crowd and throw a good party. Their annual spring event, Rovers at Wintergreen (RAW), was a tour de force of both.

The classic Maine Winter Romp Rover event used to be on my personal regular schedule. The last time I went and actually went off-roading was in 2009. Boy, have times changed since then! Winter Romp 2022 was a new era of this iconic event, one of the largest Land Rover gatherings in North America.

It has been a long spring, and there was no better way to shake the spiders out of my sanity and my truck's transfer case shifter than a socially-distant off-road run with Land Rover friends. When the opportunity arose to have a fun, safe trail ride in Western Maryland with the Land Rover Owners of Maryland and Baltimore Rovers club groups, I decided it was time to break out of my rut, pack my variety of face coverings, and hit the trail.

The last weekend of April usually means that Land Rover owners in Northern California are gathering for the annual Mendo_Recce Joe Lucas Not-a-Rallye event. For twenty-five years, "Mendo" has brought together a dedicated coalition of Land Rover lovers from the Bay Area and Northern California, as well as members further afield who drive or fly long distances to attend. Of course, like everything else right now, Mendo XXVI was not held at the usual time due to COVID-19. In place of the traditional gathering, though, a "Virtual Mendo" online event unfolded over the course of the weekend, using technology to create a digital event.

For Atlantic British, Overland Expo East prep starts months in advance. One of the first things we need to decide is what off-road accessories to bring, and how to set up the booth the best way to show what we brought. Oh, and we have to try and convince a few friends to come along to enjoy the event and help out.
