A while back we posted an article about a restoration project that planned to bring Bob Marley’s beloved 1977 Series III Land Rover back to life. Progress is being made with a familiar investment group spearheading efforts.
The project will be funded by ATL Automotive of Montego Bay, Jamaica, sister company to the internationally recognized Sandals Resorts International. Marley’s Land Rover had been sitting idle since 1981, but will soon be restored to mint condition. The restoration team scored a huge win by sourcing a replacement engine from a military issued Series found in Ethiopia. Restoring the vehicle will require a complete disassembly, and brand new electrical wiring and components.
The interior of the restored Rover, including a new three-seat bench will be designed by Bob Marley’s daughter, Cedella Marley, who is a fashion designer as well as a musician.
Sandals and ATL Automotive CEO Adam Stewart is thrilled with the undertaking:
“There are few people in the world who Bob Marley hasn’t inspired through his music so it is only right that we ensure that his legacy continues for years to come.”
When completed, the Land Rover will be featured in the Bob Marley Museum in Kingston, Jamaica.
