Apparently those sexy photos of former Spice Girl Victoria Beckham alongside the new Range Rover Evoque were a clue to her new position at Land Rover. Is Spence spinning in his grave?
Land Rover Owner International (LRO) is posting that the former Spice Girl and wife to soccer star David Beckham, has been appointed the title of “Creative Design Executive” for Land Rover’s Range Rover lineup.
“Victoria Beckham is a talented British fashion designer and is extremely knowledgeable about great design and trends.” Says Gerry McGovern, Land Rover and Range Rover Design Director.
Her first project is reported to be the sleek new Evoque, which originally debuted at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show as the Land Rover LRX concept (pictured) and re-surfaced largely unchanged to go into production shortly as a 2012 model.
This appointment is about as far removed from the origins of Land Rover as one can imagine. Remember, the earliest Range Rovers were designed to be hosed out at the end of your ride! Now what? Lace curtains? Doilies on the dashboard? Charles Spencer King, the man behind the original Range Rover design, recently passed at age 85. Wonder what he thinks about all of this?
