In advance of this year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, due to start late this week, Land Rover has revealed they will be previewing a new “concept” Defender.
However, this isn’t what you think. The Defender in question is a hand-built pedal car intended to celebrate the 60-plus years of Defender and Series Land Rover production. The limited edition pedal cars are due to hit showrooms in 2016.
The pedal cars will have an aluminum frame, each stamped with its own individual serial number. The exterior color is “Loire Blue,” as taken from the current Defender lineup, and the interiors bear leather on both the seats and the center-mounted steering wheel.
The vehicle sports spring suspension and working brakes including a handbrake. And from the provided images it looks like it will have a nice leather tonneau cover over the rear bed.
According to Land Rover, the pedal car “is both a wonderful collector’s piece and children’s toy. It demonstrates our ability to produce goods with world class quality and attention to detail.”
There’s no word on pricing yet, but as we all know, if it says “Land Rover” on it somewhere, it will come at a premium. And be worth it! According to the official Land Rover press release, it i expected that the model will cost around £10,000.
The Frankfurt Auto Show opens with trade days on Thursday, September 17 and Friday, September 18. Public days start on Saturday, September 19 and run through Sunday, September 27.
