Jaguar Land Rover Continues COVID Response

Jaguar Land Rover continues their commitment to doing its part with the COVID-19 pandemic, as it rolls towards its second year and the focus turns towards vaccination.

They lent ten new Defenders to doctors in the Solihull area to use for COVID-related duties in the area. They're using the trucks to drive to care homes to vaccinate the elderly, and transport supplies around the area. This continues Land Rover's "tradition" of loaning out trucks to medical personnel in this pandemic, which began in March when the fleet of Defenders from the cancelled press launch went on loan to medical personnel.

The Experience Centre at the Jaguar factory in Castle Bromwich, England has been turned into a vaccine research centre. This will host follow-up visits for volunteers who got their first vaccine injections at the hospital, particularly as the NHS continues to research and approve new vaccine candidates. (The Pfizer, Moderna, and AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccines are already in use in the UK.)

JLR has also gotten involved in a rapid testing pilot project, in partnership with Britain's National Health Service, which will help keep people working when they may have been exposed to COVID. Instead of requiring a quarantine in these circumstances, they will require that person to take a rapid test every day before work. As long as it remains negative every day, they can continue working instead of staying home for 10 days.

Finally, the Solihull factory has instituted a project for those employees with "long v" who continue to suffer symptoms months after contracting the virus. This rehab area will help them with reduced lung capacity, neck mobility, and energy levels, the three main areas impacted by long Covid. There's space for Pilates classes, a weights area, treadmills, and rowing machines to build a well-rounded occupational therapy program. This program will be custom-tailored to each employee's needs.

Though vaccines have shown us the light at the end of this rather long and dark tunnel, the challenge isn't quite over yet. These steps by JLR will do their own little in the global puzzle to get to the other side of the pandemic.
