Recently upgraded my Disco II tires to 275/70R18, only to realize that the new mount doesn't fit on the rear door. My heart sank when the kid at the tire shop said he paid a few grand to have someone fab a bumper-mounted swinging arm for him to address the same issue. I was so relieve to find this option! It clears the back bumper by an eighth of an inch or so. The only issue I had was that the walls of all of my sockets were too thick to fit in the area needed to tighten the bolts. A quick trip to HD to get a cheap-o 22 mm Husky fixed that though. Great option for tire upgrades!

There are multiple ways to get a larger tire on the spare carrier, but I think this one is the quickest. I chose this because I wanted a straight forward project, because we all know there is enough to do with these cars! One note is you need to cut the original studs a bit for clearance. I was not super happy about that, as you may not be able to remove this and use your original tire carrier again with the shorter studs (not sure on that). I bolted this on, and took it overlanding right away. Did not budge on 8+ hours of washboard and dirt roads.

I was initially worried that this would make my spare tire look like it was mounted comically high, but I was wrong- it looks great- the increased clearance of a few inches isn't noticeable at all. I can't tell any meaningful difference in visibility through the rear view mirror. The item includes two installation options. One is a 10-minute bolt on job, the other requires cutting down the length of the spare tire studs but keeps the tire closer to the door, putting less stress on the hinges and giving the spare a more flush-mounted appearance. I went for the second option, which only took an extra few minutes with an angle grinder and turned out great. Very happy.
