I had big problems in this area. Focusing on the pump. Mine was leaking from the front shaft. It had been leaking for quite some time as there was a generous amount of fluid and dirt built up on the pump, the brackets, the engine and streaked all along the bottom of the vehicle. After removing the pump and cleaning up the parts / bolts I was going to reuse, I installed the new one without any issues. Filled it up with fresh mercon3 transmission fluid, Burped the steering gear until fluid came out. I then started the engine and burped it again while making sure I had plenty of fluid in the reservoir. It has not leaked a drop since and steering is back to normal.
