Check your fan viscous drive (part # ETC1260) by moving the fan with your hand (make sure the engine is off) and feel for any roughness. If it doesn't move at all, you need a new one. If the viscous drive is bad, it will ruin your water pump and you will end up replacing both.
While checking the viscous fan, check your plastic fan blades for cracks (part # ETC1275A). Stress cracks are common and can lead to costly damage if not taken care of promptly.
Also, take a moment to spray your locks and hinges with WD-40 or silicone spray to keep them from freezing up. Spray your ignition key and insert into the ignition switch. A few checks and precautions can save you in the long run when the cold weather hits.
