Maintenance - Belts

Range Rover Classic | '87-'95

Range Rovers, like so many cars, can use a number of electric and electronic devices and circuits. To drive these systems, Rover uses a very large alternator. This alternator is sized to provide sufficient power to run your heater, radio, etc. simultaneously. When the system is operating with a full load, this puts significant strain on the alternator belt. Because you know they're most likely to fail on the coldest, darkest night of the year, you should have your belts checked for wear and adjusted at every oil change. If you hear a squealing sound when you turn on your rear window defroster or your driving lights, get your belts checked. The alternator belt is probably loose or worn. Atlantic British offers a belt kit which includes one of each of your belts. At a minimum, you should carry an extra alternator belt.
