Memorial Day 2012

Tech Tips

Accumulator Ball

Applies To:

Range Rover Classic | '90 - '95 | With ABS Brakes

At each scheduled maintenance, the accumulator ball precharge should be checked. It could prevent premature failure of the ABS pump.

To do this:

1. Turn the key to run position; the pump should come on with 2-3 applications of the pedal. Let it run until it turns off. Turn the key off.

2. Pump the brake pedal until you lose assist and the pedal drops slightly or goes soft. You should get 15-20 pumps before you lose assist and it drops.

3. If it takes less than 15 pumps, the precharge is low and the accumulator will need to be changed.
