The UK Transportation Secretary calls the move to low carbon transportation as “significant as the shift a century ago from the horse to the combustion engine” and he’s ponying up £24 million to prove it.
UK Transportation Secretary Phillip Hammond has announced the winners of the Technology Strategy Board’s Low Carbon Vehicles Innovation Platform and they include Jaguar Land Rover, recognized for their “innovative solutions in developing hybrid technologies and lower emission engines”.
“People are not going to give up the liberty provided by the car lightly” he said, so something must be done to make vehicles more energy efficient.
To that end, the UK Transportation Department has provided a £24 million grant awarded to six vehicle manufacturers to be put toward the cost of creating a new green car and also to encourage participation in the Plugged-In Places plan, which the UK hopes will encourage electric charging point infrastructure in cities across the country.
Jaguar Land Rover has led the charge (pardon the pun) on electric hybrid technology and will make an excellent choice for leveraging the money behind this award toward furthering this endeavor. We’ll let you know what they come up with.
