LAND ROVER lovers the world over will be making tracks to Warwickshire, England's Heritage Motor Museum this weekend to celebrate the vehicle's 60th birthday. And they’ve got a lot to look forward to!
One prime example is the “Heritage Run”, which the press release says, “For the 60th anniversary we would like the run to consist of 1 vehicle from each model for each year of production from 1948 - 2008. For example 1991 would require 1 Defender, 1 Discovery 1, and 1 Range Rover Classic. The vehicles will then run in date order.”
Doubt that’s ever been done before.
Other Anniversary highlights will include the Heritage Centre's own collection of historic vehicles, led by the centre's oldest production Land Rover, ‘HUE 166’. Restored, maintained and on display at the Heritage Motor Centre, the HUE will soon be immortalized in 1:43 scale by Corgi and will be available for purchase from the Museum shop, all good collector outlets and via Corgi Direct in October 2008. This exclusive edition of the Land Rover Series I ‘HUE’ will be limited to a maximum of 2000 pieces.
The two-day extravaganza will also include expedition talks, a trade and club village, inter-club challenge, book signings, factory tours, an in-depth history of the marque, 4x4 off-road rides, and a children's sports day. The morning tour can be extended to include an afternoon’s driving session in a series of classic Land Rover vehicles alongside the latest production models. Participants in the full day event will receive a uniquely commissioned gift to commemorate the 60th Anniversary.
This special event includes the option of four nights' camping, with evening entertainment and free parking.
