An incredibly comprehensive survey using actual records shows real-world average cost of repairs and frequency of failures for dozens of SUVs. The results may surprise you.
Warranty Direct, an extended warranty company, went through their records of 150,000 used sports utility vehicles and 4WDs from between 3 and 8 years ago, and you might find their findings quite surprising. What's great about this report is that it strips away all of the marketing and advertising claims. It does away with the brand images we have established in our minds over the years. It doesn't rely on what your brother-in-law swears is true or a small sampling of "satisfied" customers. This is actual, hard data we're talking about here.
The findings? The Freelander/LR2 was the highest placed European sports utility vehicle, coming in as more reliable than the Lexus RX300, Nissan X-Trail and Land-Cruiser. That's right. More reliable. Fewer problems. Less "frequency of failures."
