In less than the time it takes J. Lo to say "I do", Tata Motors move into its home state with its 16-month-old JLR acquisition is capturing the attention of the Indian elite.
The latest in a long line of movie stars who’ve picked up a Range Rover this year is Shahid Kapur, who was handed the keys to his new (and terribly expensive) toy by none other than Ratan Tata himself. If you follow Bollywood, you no doubt recognize Kapur. If not, you should consider renting a few Indian movie releases and see what all the fuss is about.
Tata Motors’ Premier Car Division, which is responsible for the distribution of all Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles in India, is currently in the process of developing a dealer network in the country for JLR. Vehicles currently being imported to India include the Jaguar XK and XF, and the Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, Discovery 4 and Freelander 2.
Addressing a press conference here on the occasion, Ratan Tata, the chairman of the Tata Group, said: "It's quite a memorable day in the history and heritage of Tata Motors... JLR has been well received and well established in India (in the past), but over the years this brand has been disconnected from India." Now that it's linking arm-in-arm with the country's biggest celebrities, the brand's disconnect is evidently no longer an issue.
