The American driving public got its first opportunity to see the new 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport this week. Land Rover unveiled its newest model at the kickoff for the LA auto show at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood on November 19th.
Guests were able to participate in an off-road driving experience - a man-made, all-terrain course featuring steep ascents and descents, sand banks, water crossings and rock formations, all designed to show off the capabilities of the newest model, as well as the rest of the Land Rover fleet.
The first Discovery Sport rolled off the line at Land Rover’s Halewood factory on October 17, 2014. They will go on sale early in 2015. US models won’t be available with a diesel option, however they will feature a 2.0 liter Turbocharged 4 cylinder engine that makes 240 horsepower and 250 foot pounds of torque at an appropriately low 1750 rpm. 0-60 time is given at 7.8 seconds and top speed is indicated as 124 mph. More than enough power for US highways, and the torque curve should offer great pulling power on hills and off-road.
Lots more information is available at Land Rover’s USA website. We certainly look forward to our first test drive.
