Jaguar Land Rover is kicking off a year of celebrations as a fond farewell to the original Land Rover, set to come to an end after the 2015 model year.
Now known to the world as the Defender in its current and final iteration, what began as a stop-gap measure in the post-World War II era became one of the world’s most enduring and iconic vehicles.
In a press release, Land Rover has indicated that there will be three special edition versions of the Defender in 2015, all designed to reflect unique qualities of the original Land Rovers.
There is the Autobiography edition, in two-tone paint, luxury trim, and an upgraded engine pulling approximately 25 extra horses over the standard models.
The Heritage Edition, a retro model looking similar to the 1999-2000 version, is in pastel green (“Grasmere” green to be precise) with a white roof, and “HUE 166” graphic on the front wings, a throwback to the registration worn by the first pre-production Series One, now ensconced in the Gaydon Motor Heritage Museum.
Lastly there is the Adventure Edition, built for true off-road enjoyment right out of the box with Goodyear MT/R tires, underbody skid plates and armored side sills.
There is no information at this time on how many of these special editions will be built. As usual, we won’t be seeing any of these models sold on US shores.
