Himalaya4x4 is a custom design Land Rover restoration company headquartered on the East Coast in the Carolinas. Their distinctive brand caters to a global market, designing one-off custom Land Rovers with a specialty in Defenders.
Their latest custom Defender pulled in a Global Media Award at this year’s SEMA show in Las Vegas. Atlantic British was glad to help outfit the award-winning Defender with a number of featured upgrades!
The Defender was a SEMA show favorite, garnering a significant amount of foot traffic with its extra "wow" factor.
How "wow"? We spoke to Mark Staff, President and Creative Director of Himalaya4x4, and got the impressive list of mods, upgrades and features.
Mark said they started with an old 1986 Defender 110 left-hand drive diesel model. They removed the old naturally-aspirated diesel motor and drive train along with the entire body. The existing body panels were scrapped and new panel fabrications were manufactured to custom Himalaya specs. The axles were then fully rebuilt with thicker axle shafts and new bearings.
The balance of impressive modifications includes:
- New LS3 Corvette-powered 480 HP engine with automatic transmission.
- New transfer case.
- Terrafirma Big Bore shock kit and towers for a firm but comfortable ride (donated by Atlantic British!)
- New drive shafts and Terrafirma steering damper (donated by Atlantic British!)
- New 4-wheel disc brakes and custom stainless steel brake lines (donated by Atlantic British!)
- Larger custom fuel cell with stainless lines.
- Complete new interior with custom Recaro seats wrapped in leather with white stitching, Dynamatt cabin sound damping, jute underlay and carpeting.
- Rolling 20-inch Silverline wheels with the New Atturo Trail Blade tire (new for 2015). This is actually the first set in the world on this truck!
- The console features a touch screen display with satellite navigation and 8-speaker sound system complete with blue tooth.
This impressive vehicle shoots 0-100 mph in a whopping 8.5 seconds!
