Owners of older Land Rover models such as Range Rover Classic, Series Land Rovers, Discovery 1 and Series 2, and P38 Range Rovers have something to rejoice about today Land Rover has announced the launch of a new Heritage Division to service these older vehicles.
The new division will be part of Jaguar Land Rover's Special Operations group which also includes both Land Rover Special Vehicles division and a complementary division under the Jaguar marque called Jaguar Heritage.
This announcement is the long awaited answer to the many calls from enthusiasts and other fans of the marque that have complained in recent years due to declining availability of parts and a perception that along with changes to the look of the vehicles, perhaps the core values of the brand have been diluted. These complaints have never been more vocal than they were recently with the release of the DC100 concept sketches and the subsequent announcement of the end of Defender production at the close of 2015.
However, the coming end of the Defender has also sparked a renewed interest in the history of the marque, with Land Rover going to great lengths to honor its flagship 4x4 and revel in its history as the vehicle that started it all back in 1948.
According to John Edwards, Managing Director of Jaguar Land Rover Special Operations, "It is estimated that 70% of all Land Rovers manufactured since 1948 are still in existence so there is a large and very passionate owner base to support through Land Rover Heritage."
The new division will be officially launched later this month and will slowly roll out to offer extended availability of parts and to reintroduce many more part numbers which have become obsolete over the last decade. Many of the new parts will be manufactured using the original methods employed when they were first made. Additionally, there will be heritage drives offered to give participants the chance to drive vintage vehicles from Land Rover's own heritage collection at a 200 acre testing facility outside of Warwickshire.
