The XLifter gives you precise control over your Rover's electronic air suspension (EAS). Raise or lower your vehicle far beyond factory settings without the speed restrictions. Tackle difficult terrain or fit into low-clearance spaces with ease. Use the unique self-leveling feature to level your vehicle on almost any uneven terrain with the touch of a button.

How does XLifter work?

Imagine the XLifter as an electronic equivalent of lift rods (i.e. Johnson rods), where the length of each rod is adjusted electronically according to the current setting. The signals from the wheel height sensors are transferred to the XLifter EAS unit via the “Y” wire loom. The EAS unit’s main task is to adjust these signals accordingly. In real-time, a thousand times per second. Viewed this way, the EAS units are “muscles” that carry hard work. By contrast, the control module is the “brain” of the system. It contains all of the intelligence and translates user inputs into specific instructions for the EAS unit.

XLifter Capabilities

The XLifter offers two main options for height adjustment: the preprogrammed “Lifter” mode for easy use and the “Lifter-free” mode for unrestricted manual height adjustment in 5 mm steps.

7 Pre-set programs Available in "Lifter" Mode:

Program Name Δ Height Description
Sky Rocket +75 mm Extra high clearance, for technical terrain. Equivalent to the “extended” mode. Use temporarily and with caution.
Off Road +55 mm Standard off road. Equivalent to the original “Off Road” setting, but without speed restriction. Permanent use.
One Inch Lift +25 mm Light off road. Permanent use.
Aesthetic Lift +15 mm Aesthetics. Permanent use.
Disengaged +0 mm No-change. XLifter is invisible for the vehicle.
Highway Drop -15 mm Aesthetics. Permanent use.
One Inch Drop -25 mm Better aerodynamics & fuel consumption. Smaller cornering rolls. Permanent use.
Super Drop -35 mm Extra-low mode for low-clearance spaces / loading the vehicle. Air springs almost deflated. Temporary use.

The selected height changes are always added/subtracted to the original Land Rover position selected on the center console (“Access”, “Standard”, “Off Road”). Thus, the maximum height that can be reached from the “Standard” position is +12.5 cm (5″). Please note that the Skyrocket program is disabled when in the original “Off Road” position due to wheel articulation limits. You can use the “Lifter-free” mode for such extreme lifts.

The height adjustments done by the XLifter are not limited by the vehicle speed.

Unique Self-leveling

The XLifter is the world’s first and only kit that allows the Land Rover vehicle self-level automatically, up to from 4.5° degrees slope.

The XLifter contains a high-precision tilt sensor. It is calibrated once when the vehicle is at even surface. When at a camping spot, just press the button, and the XLifter levels the vehicle automatically by adjusting the height of each wheel accordingly.

This feature has been specially developed for all over-landers or expedition travelers. Roof tent or “in-car” sleeping setup? Don’t bother finding a flat spot anymore!

XLifter is capable of a level maximum tilt of approximately 4.5° in longitudinal (pitch) or traverse (roll) direction, or in any direction provided that the sum of inclines does not exceed 4.5°.

Trailer Assist

When you need precise and easy control of your hitch this feature is exactly for you. A desired feature – comes standard in newer models LR Defenders and Discoveries – it is now available on XLifter with firmware update 1.02 & on the latest release of our mobile app.

In contrast with standard “flat” height change, the trailer assist changes car pitch. The resulting rotational effect greatly enhances the hitch adjustment range. A great feature for car-towing trailers, two-axles trailer tire change. Or simply forget the trailer and use the feature to make your dogs jump in with ease.

Compressor Temperature Monitoring

Temperature monitoring is a new feature brought by the XLifter X2 EAS unit. The vehicle compressor is designed for short quick burst operations, not for continuous use. When Suspension is raised and lowered extensively, demand for air refills increases. The compressor kicks in and starts to heat up. When overheated, the vehicle computer stops further operation until cooled down – without letting the user know about it. Hence we brought the temp. monitoring to the X2 model. Play it nicely. When the temperature gets to the high or critical range, let it cool down for a moment. Be nice to your Rover.

ABS Failure Recovery

We hope you will never have to use this feature! When the ABS Sensor failure occurs on the LR3, LR4 or Range Rover Sport, the suspension is locked and the car is lowered almost to bump stops – all for your safety.

Nice idea, but you really do not want this to happen while overlanding in remote areas – you’ll get stuck in a middle of nowhere! So just in case, there is an ABS sensor recovery emergency feature, which re-lifts the vehicle again, allowing you to get back to civilization for repairs.

Selectable Default Lift (-15 mm to +55 mm)

Designed mainly for 32” and bigger tires users.

In the unlikely case of Xlifter reset – battery disconnection, controller disconnected for a long time – Xlifter will “boot up” into selected lift instead of +0 mm. Prevents tire rubbing in the LR “Standard” height.

You can consider the Xlifter as a true electronic lift-rods replacement.

Plug & Play Installation

Installation is easy. It takes about 30-60 minutes and you can totally do it yourself. Not rocket science. There are only two screws to unscrew and Wireless communication between the units eliminates difficult in-vehicle wiring.

The EAS unit is fixed with Velcro fasteners and is connected by the Y-cable loom.

The Control unit can be placed anywhere in the vehicle and it is powered from the 12 V cigarette lighter socket (or any other suitable 12 V point).

There are no changes in the vehicle. No drilling, cutting, or soldering. This means that XLifter can be easily removed if necessary.

Built for Reliability

The XLifter was designed and built for reliability from its inception. The Control unit and the EAS unit are intentionally separated. This “split” design allows the EAS unit to be as simple as possible. And what is simple is reliable. In addition, robust protection circuitry is built-in. All inputs and outputs are protected for overvoltage, polarity reverse and radio interference… The XLifter has passed thousands of hours of testing in several vehicles without any major issues. You can just depend on it.

Battery Friendly

XLifter won’t kill the car battery in the long run. The XLifter EAS unit draws a super-low quiescent current of 0.0005 Amps when asleep. We just took the extra mile effort with proper hardware design. Xlifter falls asleep and wakes up with the car systems properly. This should be “given” with all modern products, but as we found, it quite isn’t. So with the XLifter installed, don’t worry about having a flat battery when left the car for a long time.

As Safe as Possible

Though the XLifter is not officially certified device, safety comes first. The EAS has several layers of protection both on hardware and software level.

The software algorithm intelligently limits wheel adjustments to stay within allowed limits. The control module senses the original vehicle height and automatically restricts incompatible pre-set programs in the original “Access” or “Off Road” position heights. This means that the original vehicle system is less prone to throw non-fatal “yellow” warnings.

The control module has a keylock feature. This safety measure is designed to allow for when the vehicle is driven by a 3rd party and you want to prevent them from changing the air suspension settings. Safety first.

Investment Protection

The XLifter is portable between all compatible cars. Have you installed the XLifter into Discovery 3 and upgrading to Discovery 4? Take XLifter with you. It’s just a matter of settings. You are not locked to one specific vehicle type.

And there is a Wi-Fi firmware upload facility. When new firmware is ready, perhaps with new features, you upload it from your cell phone, notebook, etc. Simply, wirelessly. Check out this YouTube XLifter firmware upgrade guide!

Mobile APP Support

Ok, a moment of honesty. The XLifter is intentionally designed in a way that a mobile APP is not needed. The logic is simple. The XLifter is tuned to make things easy while Off-roading. Working with a mobile touchscreen while negotiating bumpy rough technical terrain is hard. There is a good reason for the simple layout of physical keys on the control module.

But, we understand the world’s love affair with mobile apps and kept all this in mind while building our ours. The result is a no-nonsense, simplistic yet clever, and ultimately helpful app. So if you prefer – use your cell phone to level, adjust, select presets and check compressor temperature, or any other of the remaining several features, some of which are unique to the app. It’s a highly functional remote control for your unit you will love to mess with.

IMPORTANT Installation & Usage Notes!

1. Start at Standard Ride Height: Apply XLifter Setting Programs ONLY WHEN IN THE LAND ROVER or RANGE ROVER IS AT FACTORY STANDARD HEIGHT! If you forget and miss this and change the height and the vehicle faults, shut the truck off, wait 10 seconds, then restart the truck. DO NOT use any other lift rods to get the truck to go higher, this will damage the suspension. If you have Johnson Rods or other lift rods installed, they MUST BE REMOVED before installing XLifter.

2. Ensure Proper Connections: Make sure all the plugs for the electrical portion are inserted FULLY. If they do come unplugged, the truck will instantly open all valves and dump all the air out of the bags and the tank without warning, then a fault will appear on the dash. If this happens, shut the truck off, recheck and plug the loose connector back in, then restart the truck.

3. DO NOT Work Underneath Vehicle Without Jack Stands: With XLifter installed, the truck will be able to activate/run/move the air suspension with the doors open. It disables the door inhibit functions. ******* DO NOT LAY ON YOUR BACK OR USE A CREEPER TO GO UNDER THE TRUCK WITHOUT THE USE OF JACK STANDS, IN CASE THE AIR SUSPENSION FAULTS AND GOES DOWN INTO SUPER DROP MODE. *******

4. Tuning Your Ride When Keeping Vehicle At A Newly-Programmed Height: If you want to keep the truck at a programmed lift setting different than "standard ride height" (e.g. Aesthetic Lift), it is highly recommended to get a 4-wheel alignment after programming is complete. You should also loosen then re-tighten all suspension arms that have rubber bushings so the bushings are in the neutral position while at the new ride height. This will improve vehicle ride and handling while at your new programmed height.

5. Calibration On Level Terrain Only: When calibrating make sure the truck is on a level and flat surface. If this is done on a slope, the truck may not be level when using the auto-level feature.

6. Self-Leveling On Uneven Terrain: If you are trying to level the truck on uneven terrain, and the small numbers that give the degrees are flashing, the truck will not be able to completely level, but It will go as far as it can to get it to as close to level as the suspension allows.

7. Vehicle Natural Rake & Leveling Under Load: Please keep in mind that trucks have a natural rake (rear slightly higher than the front), and it will level to the calibrated pitch and roll that the truck was calibrated at. Also, keep that in mind when you are using a rooftop tent on the truck, and it is fully loaded for an expedition.
