In fact, the designers of the new 3rd generation Range Rover were inspired by the interior of luxury yachts, and took inspiration for the sleeker, ventilated exterior from the classic Riva powerboat. Their overall mission: make it strikingly fresh, but reassuringly familiar. That's why you'll still find the classic castellated bonnet, flat front and floating roof. But Land Rover is claiming that this Range Rover - its first re-design since 1994 - raises the bar to an entirely new level.
A new steel monocoque frame is said to increase agility off-road and provide better on-road manners than its separate body-on-chassis predecessor. There's more interior space, more cargo space and a more solid feeling overall, without adding weight to the vehicle. A feat accomplished by replacing steel with lightweight aluminum in strategic locations.
