You know it's new the minute you lay eyes on it: the brushed metal power vents on the sides, the European-style crazy lights in front and back...and inside! Cherry and walnut blend, with brushed aluminum fascia that reminds one more of a luxury yacht than a luxury car.
In fact, the designers of the new 3rd generation Range Rover were inspired by the interior of luxury yachts, and took inspiration for the sleeker, ventilated exterior from the classic Riva powerboat. Their overall mission: make it strikingly fresh, but reassuringly familiar. That's why you'll still find the classic castellated bonnet, flat front and floating roof. But Land Rover is claiming that this Range Rover - its first re-design since 1994 - raises the bar to an entirely new level.
A new steel monocoque frame is said to increase agility off-road and provide better on-road manners than its separate body-on-chassis predecessor. There's more interior space, more cargo space and a more solid feeling overall, without adding weight to the vehicle. A feat accomplished by replacing steel with lightweight aluminum in strategic locations.
Check it out and see if you don't agree...the other guys are still going to be playing catch up for years to come.
