The full-size Range Rover has been available in long-wheelbase form since 2014 on a global scale. But the Chinese market has a particular interest in long-wheelbase versions of cheaper vehicles. Due to the chaotic road conditions, chauffeurs are common in far more of the upper middle class there than they are in America. Many automakers produce China-only long-wheelbase versions of their middle-market models, while producing long-wheelbase flagships globally.
The Evoque L is 6.3 inches longer than the standard Evoque, all focused in the backseat. This gives the most compact Range Rover a backseat closer to that of the larger models. The longer rear doors only slightly impact the Evoque’s design, and if anything perhaps improve it by bringing it closer to the sultry lines of the Range Rover Velar. A small L on the C-pillar distinguishes the bigger model.
It’s very unlikely that the Evoque L will make it to markets outside of China – and it’s unclear if it’s being built in England or at JLR’s joint venture factory with Chinese automaker Chery in the city of Changshu near Shanghai.
The Range Rover Evoque L starts at 430,000 yuan, about $66,500, and features the 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder motor.
