Rumors have been circulating recently about the introduction of a new Land Rover model to fill the current void between the top-end Evoque and the entry-level Range Rover Sport.
Marketing and strategy teams at Land Rover are considering the development of a Grande Evoque, a larger version of the current Evoque coupe. The Grande Evoque would provide the Range Rover lineup with a mid-sized SUV that could be marketed to families who admire the sporty design of today’s Evoque, but require more size and space. Land Rover estimates the price of the new Grande Evoque may range from 33k to 55k pounds, making it an affordable alternative to the Range Rover Sport.
The Grand Evoque would be built on a larger version of the current Evoque LR-MS platform, adding 300mm of length and 100mm of height. The expansions would result in a larger trunk, higher front seating position, and increased legroom. Engine options are believed to match the 2.2 liter diesel and 2.0 liter petrol offerings of the current Evoque.
The development of the Grande Evoque could provide a vehicle platform and a cost-effective means of introducing a new Jaguar SUV in the future. As SUV sales in growing Asian markets continue to climb, the timing could be right for a new luxury option… Stay tuned for updates!
