Officially, JLR’s statement was that "the current global context presents us with trading challenges so we are pausing the delivery of vehicles into the Russian market and continually monitoring the situation on behalf of our global customer base."
In 2021, JLR sold 6,900 vehicles in Russia.
JLR has now turned to helping their employees and their families flee Ukraine. About 650 employees have family in Ukraine, many of the employees at the Nitra, Slovakia factory which is about 260 miles from the Slovakia-Ukraine border.
JLR is working to evacuate the families to Slovakia, with the first batch of people brought over the weekend of February 26-27. They are using their connections in Slovakia to help these refugees find employment, childcare, mental healthcare, and donations.
