It could make 0-60mph about two seconds faster, stop about seven feet shorter and do the quarter mile in under 16 seconds...and it could be coming to a select few Rover dealers in the near future.

It's the special Freelander Supercharged-Performance by Callaway prototype, which debuted at the 2002 SEMA show in Las Vegas, and it seems to be the solution for the only real criticism of the Freelander since its debut here in the states: lack of power. Callaway has become synonymous with high-performance upgrades, and this custom supercharger package promises to boost output by 76 hp.
It also includes Callaway's four-wheel disc brake configuration to bring the added power back under control, and a throaty twin-pipe exhaust system mated to stainless-steel mufflers. The tricked-out Freelander, which also includes some computer recalibration, 18" wheels and Pirelli performance tires, won't look much different on the outside, with only a few subtle Callaway badges to indicate the performance package.
Still, for those who want a lot more ooomph - and are willing to pay what will likely be a lot more ouch - the Callaway Freelander should be on your radar screen. We'll keep you posted...
