Land Rover North America announced an awards program that will award seven custom Defenders to seven non-profits in the United States, each of which are doing their part to make a positive impact in their community and could use a vehicle to further that cause.
The Defender Above and Beyond Service Awards are designed to carry on the legacy of the Defender with humanitarian agencies. Land Rover has donated Defenders to non-profits, NGOs, first responder organizations, and conservationists for decades. With the vehicle returning to America as a mainstream model, they intend to now spread that legacy here.
Seven charitable organizations will each be awarded a Defender – one in each of seven categories: Search and Rescue, Coastal and Marine Conservation, Animal Welfare, First Responders, Environmental, Urban Improvement, and Fire Services. Nominations will be open to the general public in each category on a schedule, followed by the selection of finalists and a public vote to decide who will get the free truck.
Each organization’s prize Defender will be custom-equipped for their mission, whatever that may be. Organizations must be a 501(c)(3) to qualify. Submissions can be made at LandRoverUSA.com/DefenderServiceAwards.
The first categories are already open for submission – Search and Rescue and Coastal and Marine Conservation. Submissions for these categories are open until April 7th, 2021. The rest of the contest will proceed on the following schedule:
All winners will be announced on September 2nd, 2021.
