Part #:KFC1 Key Fob Cover Replacement For LR3 or Range Rover Sport. Hi I'm Doug your tech support representative here at Atlantic British. And in this video we're going to talk about replacing the key covers on your 2006 to 2009 LR3. Now you find over a period of time that the rubber buttons will wear down. You even find that hand lotion can affect the material and actually have a chemical reaction that gives them a hard glaze or makes them real soft and puffy. And it reaches a point where the key becomes harder to use. And it just looks unsightly. So we actually have a replacement key cover now for the 2006 to 2009 Sport. This is identical to the original equipment. And what's nice about it is you can actually transfer the guts from the old key to the new one which means no re-programming or anything. All you're simply doing is upgrading the key case. So we're going to show you how to do that transfer and upgrade your key. Start with disassembly. Now, getting the old key apart is tough. These are really put together. Land Rover even states these are not serviceable. So they build them that way. But what you can do is in the area where you have your key, you pry and split that open so you can drop the key out. Now if you damage the spring, don't worry about it. You get a new spring with the new cover. The same with the little activating barrel. But you don't want to save this key. We're going to reinstall that into the new cover. Essentially you're taking this old cover, now that you've gotten the key out. You're going to go down through that opening. You don't want to go in through here because you may end up passing through and damaging the circuit board, which then you have to replace the key. So you've gone down through here. You've taken 2 screw drivers, insert and split wide open. Literally had to take a hammer and drive the small screw driver into that seam, straight down. That would be in this area right here where the original key went. So now that we've got it split, we peel it open like a clam shell. Now once you have this split open, now you can see there's your circuit board for the key. And it's quite a bit a piece of work. Now generally anything you touch electronics, they always recommend with a ground strap. And you can get them in any basic electronics supply. It's literally a wrist strap with a cord on it and an alligator clip and you would ground that to the surface that you're working on. Because you're fingers can actually cause a cross circuit and actually damage the board. That or I would suggest wear cotton gloves. But you really don't want to handle these without gloves or some kind of protection. We're going to show you how to split this new case. You're going to flip the key open. This will separate much easier than the old one. For reassembly now we've got the circuit board back in the base of the new key. We have the original ignition key. The key itself. The tent barrel. And then of course the new spring. Now the spring has a little tab that sticks out of the bottom. And that's going to drop down in this slot right here. It just slides right over that tab and then locks down. And that essentially positions the spring. Then we're going to take the little barrel. We're going to set that on top. And then we're going to spring that until we feel that drop into place. And you can tell if you try to turn it in one direction or the other you will feel some spring tension. So the next will be the key itself. Now if you look on the back side of the key you will see 2 open slots and then another slot here in the middle. This will line up with the third lug in between the 2 sides. But when you flip it over you're going to notice that that open slot for this tab is actually over here. And the reason for that is you're going to set this around in this position. Line up the 2 side tabs with those 2 open slots. And slowly drop that over. We'll hold a little bit of tension. And essentially this is what creates the spring tension for the key to pop out when you're ready to use it. So let me set that down. We hold that all in place. We'll put the cover on. And we don;t really pop all of it. Just the front side to hold it in place. Now the back side you have a little tab where you can put your key ring. And you'll see that there's a little tab right here. And that drops into this slot. And then there are 2 little side tabs that get locked in place between the 2 parts. So we'll slide that into place. Lock that in. Squeeze the whole thing together. You actually hear a nice pop. And you'll notice because of the, being this is an older key, it may be a little sluggish in the beginning, but in time what that will do is actually loosen up like the original, start popping right out for you. And you can even help that along a little bit by just simply, just a minor adjustment there, just to loosen that up just a little bit. And you'll see it all ready makes a huge difference. So there you go. She's all done. All assembled.
