The mounting hole pattern is of critical importance to the strength of your winch. For winches, which are not mounted on a factory mounting plate, it is recommended that you use a winch-mounting bracket as that shown on the last page, applying the illustrated hole pattern, hole diameters.
The winch is to be mounted with feet down on a horizontal mounting plate. Use 3/8 x 1 -1/4" grade 5 hex head cap screws, lock washers and square nuts for a 3/16" to 1/4" thick mounting plate. (Cavities have been provided in the drum supports for the grade 5 hex head cap screws, lock washers and hex nuts.
CAUTION! To avoid damage to the drum support brackets, do not use fasteners longer than those recommended.
The winch may also be mounted with the feet forward on a vertical mounting plate. In this situation the 8" x 1-1/4" fairlead slot must be centered between the lower holes in the mounting plate.
To install: First align the upper holes in the drum supports with the upper holes in the mounting plate and secure loosely with two 3/8 16 x 1-1/4" grade 5 hex head cap screws, square nuts and lock washers. Next, insert two 3/8-16 x 1-1/2" grade 5 hex head cap screws with locksets through the fairlead and lower mounting holes and secure loosely with square nuts in the lower holes of the drum supports.
Tighten the above cap screws and bolts to 33 lb. Ft. (4.6 Kg-m) torque.
NOTE: Assure that the drum rotates freely with clutch disengaged. If drum binds or does not rotate freely, the mounting plate is not flat. Place shim washers between the winch and mounting plate until the drum rotates freely.
The gear housing may be rotated 72 degrees (two bolt holes) in either direction for its original position to provide convenient access to the clutch lever.
If an alternate position is desired, remove the ten socket head cap screws, then holding the complete gear housing assembly together as a unit separate it from the drum support only enough to allow it to be rotated (approx. 1/16").
Rotate the complete assembly two-bolt holes either direction, then reinstall the ten cap screws. Be sure that the gear teeth on the drum support are properly engaged. Tighten the ten cap screws to 30 in. lb. (0.34 Kg.-m) torque.
