Troubleshooting Electric Seats

Range Rover Classic | '87 - '94

If the seat on your Range Rover isn't working properly, you're not alone. The first thing to do is check the fuse. But, don't look for it with the rest of the fuses in the fuse box. The seat fuses are located under the driver's side seat. The fuse is a 30 amp spade type. If it's blown, order Atlantic British part # 9614.

If the fuses are okay, then you need to change the seat switch itself. To do this, carefully pry up the knobs with a straight screwdriver and then remove the cover plate. You'll see two securing screws, one on either end. Remove these and lift the switch out of the box. Simply plug into the new switch, try it and replace the cover and knobs. The whole process takes 15 minutes.

The electric seats and corresponding seat switches were not designed into the early Range Rover models and were added later. This explains the unusual location of the switch box and seat fuses. It fails often because it is prone to collect dirt and dust down where it sits at the base of the seat. Be sure to install a rubber grommet that will help to seal out the dirt and dust.
