Land Rover has introduced a new pricing structure for Southern Ireland with price reductions averaging 11 percent. Is this a test?

Land Rover says new car buyers will not find a better value; not even in England or Northern Ireland.

For example, a 2.2 liter Freelander 2 TD4 Commercial is now available from €24,500 (down from €28,225), and the five-door passenger Freelander 2 is now available from €33,900 (down from €39,120). (Prices are in Euros.) Not only do they get a snappy deal over in the land of Erin, they can also choose any two of the following; one year free road tax, one year free insurance, or three years free servicing.

But if you want to get in on this deal, better book your flight now. It all goes away at the end of March.

Looking for the award-winning Discovery 3? The European TDV6 Commercial – not available in the States - is down to €34,120 (from €38,775), while the Discovery 3 passenger vehicles can be had from €51,340 (down from €56,570).

Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Defender also see price reductions ranging from six on up to 15 per cent. The Defender 90 pick up – hey, why not? – starts at a measly €24,300. That savings will pay for your flight and a couple of rounds of golf, easy!

David Harpur, managing director of Land Rover Ireland, said: “Our range of vehicles is unique. The breath of capability that comes from 50 years’ experience making the best 4 x 4s sets the standard in the sector."

Actually, Mr. Harpur, it’s 60 years’ experience. Maybe he came late to the party.

We wonder? Could this be a test? If it works in Ireland, maybe they'll roll out savings like these everywhere else?

Harpur continues: “Coupled with our finance package, the price reductions mean that it now makes sense to choose Land Rover as a business or family vehicle when selecting your next car. We are operating in very difficult market conditions and have taken the necessary measures to stay competitive and offer great value.”

He got that right.
