The Land Rover Discovery has always been adept at handling large rocks. Now it appears it can even handle those (somewhat) that come crashing through the sunroof!
David Ackland had his Discovery on cruise control at 60mph and was driving his customary route along A12 in Romford, England when he drove through an underpass and CRASH! A large concrete block came hurtling through his sunroof.
Evidently, this is what some English hooligans consider a good time. Three boys from Chelmsford have been arrested after this – about the twelfth time it’s happened on this bridge!
“Had I passed a second later it would have hit me and probably killed me.” Ackland said. “I was on cruise control at 60mph so if the concrete had struck me and rendered me unconscious it could have been potentially devastating for other motorists too.”
Detective Inspector Dean Chapple said: "This particular incident illustrates the severity of the criminal acts we are dealing with. Even a stone thrown from a bridge can be fatal, but when you look at the size of this concrete, it is amazing that the consequences were not far, far worse."
Well, Land Rovers were built to handle rocks, remember? Happy Thanksgiving to you, Mr. Ackland.
