The weather this winter has been unusually brutal in the UK. They’re not accustomed to handling large amounts of snow, so when they got hit with it Land Rover UK answered the call, providing 12 vehicles to the local Ambulance service to help them get medical staff and supplies through the arctic conditions to people in need.
Land Rover has been a long term supporter of the British Red Cross Society, most recently donating 60 vehicles to them for their vital work worldwide, in celebration of their 60th anniversary (see Red Cross Gets 60 Land Rovers). They put them to work in places where often there aren’t even any roads. Little did they suspect that they would soon be helping out right in their own backyard.
West Midlands Ambulance Service’s Rob Ashford said: “We would like to particularly thank Land Rover UK for providing us with the extra off road vehicles that are proving extremely useful in the current adverse weather conditions.” The service reported a ten percent rise in calls with an increase in the number of accidents and falls associated with the treacherous driving conditions.
Phil Popham, Land Rover’s managing director, said: “I’m delighted we have been able to assist the emergency services.”
Nobody is complaining about those gas-guzzling SUV’s in England now.
