In a battle of raw, unadulterated torque, which vehicle would you pick to stand at the top of the heap - 2.5 liter Land Rover Defender or Dodge Ram pickup boasting a 5.9 liter inline 6 diesel engine? The results may surprise you.

In this scenario, both vehicles are tethered to one another at the bumper and instructed to use all of their might to pull in opposite directions. When the smoke finally settles, we have a clear winner. Despite giving up a considerable size disadvantage, the Defender seen in this video takes the Ram to task repeatedly, showing that it’s not always the size of the dog in the fight, but rather the size of the fight in the dog.
Of course, the Defender does have a few tactical advantages. Permanent all-wheel-drive, locking differentials, a manual transmission and a more balanced distribution of weight across the axles does position the Defender well for the competition.
As this test shows (rather bluntly) - the Defender is one very serious vehicle.
