Londoners were more than likely surprised to see a one-off-Land Rover Defender-based ‘London Taxi' tooling around the capital. The Defender was being filmed for a commemorative piece celebrating the iconic vehicle and promoting the coming auction of the 2,000,000th Defender. The charity auction will be December 16th, 2015 at Bonhams New Bond Street headquarters.
The film also stars a number of other custom Land Rovers including a Series II ice cream truck, a specially tailored Paul Smith Defender and the very first original Series One Land Rover 80” that was displayed at the Amsterdam Motor Show in 1948. The vehicles are shown as they toddle around taking in London's famous landmarks and telling the 67-years-long history of the Defender.
The 2,000,000th Defender will be displayed at Bonhams from 15-16 December for prospective bidders to preview the vehicle ahead of its auction.
The auction proceeds will be donated in their entirety to Land Rover's chosen humanitarian and conservation partners - the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Born Free Foundation.
