Earlier this week, Jaguar Land Rover North America (JLRNA) announced the opening of a new North American Headquarters in Mahwah, New Jersey. Timed to coincide with the lead-up to the 2018 New York International Auto Show, the opening celebration took place over three days of events, attended by employees, VIP guests, customers, and New Jersey government officials.
At the official Building Dedication ceremony, Joe Eberhardt, President & CEO of JLRNA Activities, announced the official renaming of the street to Jaguar Land Rover Way. Dr. Ralf Speth, CEO of JLR proper, was also on hand for the events. The mayor of Mahwah, Bill Laforet, gave Land Rover a key to the city.
In keeping with their brand philosophy of supporting technology research and education, JLR also held a Design Seminar for design and technology students from Morrisville State College, New Jersey Institute of Technology, Parsons School of Design, Pratt Institute, Ramapo College and Stevens Institute of Technology. Students were given designer-led vehicle presentations of the new all-electric Jaguar I-PACE and the Range Rover SV Coupe and also participated in Q&A on working in the automotive industry.
Finally, there will be an evening reception featuring the North American debuts of the I-PACE and the Range Rover SV Coupe, and Jaguar's F-PACE SVR. A performance by DJ Hester Prynne and other VIP guests round out the evening.
Eberhardt says the new headquarters opens a "new era for Jaguar Land Rover in North America in which we will have growing sales, expanded model lineups and breakthrough technology."
The new headquarters are on a 12-acre campus. The 144,000 sq. ft., state-of-the-art facility is the result of a $30 million-plus investment by JLR, first announced in the fall of 2016. It provides more square-footage, a new showroom, and a 30,000 sq. ft. research, training and development center. Staff facilities include 78 conference and meeting rooms, 498 workstations and over 85 indoor and outdoor wireless access points. Also consistent with JLR's brand philosophy, the building incorporates sustainability features that include electric-vehicle chargers, farm-to-table catering for in-house food services, locally-roasted coffee, and the use of eco-friendly and recyclable paper products throughout the building.
There are about 400 JLR employees based in Mahwah, and 40 in Mississauga, Ontario. The company has 232 retail facilities across North America and is coming off of a consecutive record-setting year in 2017. Sales for the two brands combined reached an all-time annual record; up 9% to 128,098 units in North America.
