The latest, yet-to-be titled James Bond film will once again feature late-model Land Rover vehicles in the starring role, again supported by Daniel Craig as the dapper secret agent. Despite the cloak and dagger reputation of 007, thieves managed to make off with five Range Rover Sports that were destined to appear in the new film.
The five modified Rangies were nicked from a Jaguar Land Rover facility in Germany, where they were awaiting transport to the alps for filming. The purloined 4x4s, including another four that were not intended for the film, were reportedly valued upwards of $950,000.
It is suspected that the crooks hacked into in the vehicles’ software and were able to exploit vulnerabilities blamed on the EU-compliant data structure. Of more pressing concern to the thieves, perhaps, is the notion that the vehicles were fitted with stunt-specific modifications such as collapsible suspensions and easy-shatter windshields.
The thefts occurred in October, and the vehicles were replaced with no delays to the film production.
