Outfitting a Land Rover Discovery Series II for Off-Road
Hello. I'm Eric, a sales rep here at Atlantic British. Today we're going to talk about building up a Discovery 2 into an off road vehicle. They've gotten really affordable now. You can pick up a D2 for $3,500 to $5,000, put 3, 4, 5 thousand dollars into it and have a very good off road vehicle. This one we picked up a couple years ago. We've been driving it around, using it as a test mule. So now we're going to build it up into an off road truck. With Doug's help, we're going to put suspension, front and rear bumpers and then slowly build it up into a lifestyle truck. We'll have videos that will show Doug doing each process, and we'll post those as time goes on. This truck's in good shape. It's very straight for the year and we've had it for a few years as I've said. So stayed tuned and we'll have more information as time goes on.
Part Two (Extra): Install Terrafirma Swivel Recovery Point Shackles On Front Steel Bumper Part # TFSRP
Hi I'm Doug, your tech support representative here at Atlantic British. Welcome back to Project D2. And what we've done now is we've installed a steel bumper and the winch, and the only thing we really need now in the front are a set of pull hooks, so God forbid you should get buried in the mud, you've got something to hook up to and pull it out. So what we have is a swivel point recovery shackle. This is made by Terrafirma. We do stock this on our website under the part name TFSRP. You get a pair of these. And what you do is they're installed into holes that are already pre drilled in the bumper. And this will actually, you'll find that most of these holes already pre drilled in a lot of other manufacturers besides Terrafirma, which is nice because then you can use these regardless. And all you really need to do to install them. Now one thing I will mention is the steel bumpers, is the steel bumper that we have in the rear already has pull hooks on it, welded on it. The front does not come with them. So if you want something to hook up to you want these. And to install them, relatively easy, you only need 2 tools. Use a ratchet and a 10 millimeter allen, and what we're going to do is pull the swivel bolt out, which will release the hook from the post. And you can feel just by the weight these are pretty heavy duty units. Bumper gives you an access hole underneath so that you lift and push that pin from the inside. And then a snap ring is all you really need to hold it in place. So a good set of snap ring pliers, spread that on, you can actually hold the post, you don't have to worry about getting anything behind it again. Once we get it on that far we can slide it the rest of the way. Until we hear it snap in place. Just keep pushing that a little bit at a time. And we'll hear it. There we go. Make sure it's seated all the way around. And that's all you need. You don’t have to worry about this being just a thin snap ring, because essentially any time you use this it's going to be in pull mode, not push, so that's not going any where. Plus the fact is once you put the swivel hook back on, it's not going anywhere. Just re install this. Now, what you can do, just give this a little bit of, don't even have to be really tight. We just need to just get it so that the bolt is not going to back off. It still allows you to swivel that shackle as you can see you have really good versatility on it. Pretty much put this at any angle. Going down the road, if you want, and you don't want the hook to be banging against the bumper, you go another half turn to three quarters turn. You'll feel it locked down, and that will keep that hook from banging around down there. So this gives you really good versatility. It's a good piece to have on the front of your bumper. So, when you're ready to add on a pair of swivel quick recovery shackles, just give a call to any of our knowledgeable salesmen at 1-800-533-2210. Thanks for watching.
