If the tail door on your Discovery will not open from the outside, chances are good the handle has seized. Remove the Land Rover emblem that covers the handle. Spray some penetrating oil on the pivots. Push the handle in and out until the handle operates properly. In most cases this three minute operation will be all that's required to open the tail door.
