Troubleshooting - Power Steering

Applies To:

Range Rover Classic | '87 - '95

If your steering feels even a little loose, your Range Rover steering boxes may need to be periodically bled. This is the first thing to check. Tiny bubbles have a tendency to collect in the steering box. New fluid and a thorough fluid-letting of the system has been known to do wonders in many cases. The power steering unit uses a standard Dexron IID fluid.

Atlantic British has found that installation of a new standard or premium gas steering stabilizer* has done a great job in removing the "shudder" in the steering. If you are having problems with steering shudder, bleed the system. If the problem persists, look to the steering stabilizer - before getting involved with a full front-end rebuild. A new stabilizer may be all you need. Atlantic British offers a *premium Bilstein Steering Damper (# 6497B) and also a standard Woodhead Steering Damper (# 6497)
