Troubleshooting - Temperature Gauge Inaccurate Triggering Temperature Warning Light

Applies To:

Range Rover 4.0/4.6 | '95 - '96

If you see either of these symptoms:

  • Your coolant temperature gauge is reading too high and a temperature warning light is coming on when temperature is normal.
  • Or, the temperature is reading or warning too hot when an electrical load is placed on the alternator.

The cause of these symptoms is usually excessive resistance between the engine temperature sensor ground and the body electric control module reference ground.

Our Temperature Gauge Conversion Kit # TMPGK is the SOLUTION! It uses the two-pin temperature sensor from a later model vehicle that provides a better reference ground for the body electric control module and solves the false reading/warnings.
