You need a deep socket like this for the front axles, the axle stubs stick out much further than the rear axles. Tool works on the front and rear axles. Round side of this tool is also the correct size to drive the rear trans/ output oil seal in.

It is an awesome tool - since parts stores stopped carrying hub nut sockets for old CJ5s and Wagoneers, the sources are fewer and farther between.
Not that it detracts from the functionality - but the socket I received already had powdercoating falling off on the edges, fresh out of undamaged plastic bag - hence 4 stars.
