Evidently rumors of the death of the auto industry have been greatly exaggerated, as Land Rover sales in the UK shot up 58% in January. And it gets even better…
Sales for the Range Rover Sport were up 66 percent and for the Freelander, 57 percent. Sure, this is compared to last January, when car sales the world over were struggling (to be kind), but as Land Rover Managing Director John Edwards says, “We had double the hits on the landrover.co.uk website in January than we had last year,” indicating a wide spread interest in the brand across the board.
And as for the ground-breaking LR4… that showed a whopping 92 percent rise in sales at car dealers across the UK, compared to last January.
Edwards continues, “This is testimony to the outstanding success of the new 2010 model year vehicles, which have recently been launched to rave reviews… and reflects a stability starting to return to the marketplace which is critical to the business.”
In the U.K., the world’s largest market for Land Rovers, the brand as a whole also outsold each of its nearest rivals. Range Rover outsold the Mercedes S-Class by 172%, the LR4 outsold the Volvo XC90 by 95%, the Freelander outsold the Honda CR-V by 70% and the Range Rover Sport outsold the BMW X5 by 50%.
