Land Rover (who else?) is sponsoring Ben Saunders in his attempt to break the world speed record of 36 days, 22 hours, to make it across the frozen tundra to the North Pole. He’ll be doing this alone, on foot and without any help.
Phil Popham, Managing Director of Land Rover, said: "Ben is a modern-day hero, who optimizes Land Rover's spirit of adventure. He's an inspirational character who we are delighted to be supporting in this exciting record- breaking expedition. We wish him all the luck in his aim to break the current speed record of 36 days, 22 hours."
This attempt will actually serve as a “warm up” for his upcoming Scott Antarctic Expedition, which will be an 1,800 mile retun journey to the South Pole on the centenary anniversary of Captain Scott’s Terra Nova expedition and, while not a speed record per se, will be the longest unsupported polar journey in history.
