Land Rover sets the world standard for ruggedness and durability in 4X4’s and now…cell phones?
This is not your niece’s sissy fashion phone. This is a Land Rover phone – or all-terrain mobile handset – and it’s coming soon to a dealer near you.
It seems that mobile phone manufacturer Sonim has partnered up with Land Rover to market the Land Rover S1 (pictured) and Land Rover S2 G4. And yes, it is as rugged as it looks; designed to withstand pretty much anything you’d likely encounter off-road, such as fog, humidity, road salts and the occasional thermal shock. In fact, they can reportedly withstand total submersion in water or a fall onto concrete from a height of 1.6 meters (holding – or dropping - height).
The phone features Bluetooth technology, so you can keep both hands on the wheel while you’re negotiating your LR3 over rocks and phone the office at the same time. And, like so many things Land Rover these days, it’s actually green. Its protective case is made out of XENOY, which is a revolutionary post-consumer plastic derived mostly from used plastic bottles and film. Imagine that.
Now if they could only offer one in Land Rover green. Oh well.
The new Sonim Landy phones will be going on sale in mid-2009. Prices have yet to be announced, but real guys aren’t going to let a little thing like price point get in the way of owning an all-terrain mobile handset like this.
