Land Rover Sales Reach The Half Million Mark in North America

Selling 500,000 of Anything British is tough to do here in America, when you think about it. And the future - shown here - looks even more promising.

When you think about it, the United Kingdom really doesn’t do too well here in the States. It may have all started with that revolutionary thing around 1775. And the War of 1812 didn’t help, what with the British burning down the White House and all. We never really warmed up to cricket, drinking Pimms or hunting foxes on horseback. We find British food boring and English comedies tasteless. OK, we stole The Office from them but then we changed it all around to suit us better. Heck, we never even acquired a taste for malting our “French” fries and we’ll take our beer cold, thank you. Ice cold.

So it is a rare thing indeed that we have warmed up to a British vehicle; especially one in such tight competition with the iconic American Jeep. But Americans also appreciate a job well done, and Land Rover is the epitome of a job well done.

Recently, Land Rover North America announced that a Range Rover Sport Supercharged was their 500,000th vehicle sold in the US. The announcement was made at an annual dealer meeting.

Chris Marchand is the executive vice president of marketing and sales at Land Rover North America. Marchand said, “Reaching this milestone demonstrates the strength of the Land Rover brand and is a result of a dedicated and passionate retailer network. The Land Rover model line-up has undergone a complete revitalization and reaching this achievement shows the growth we have experienced over the past four years. It took us ten years to sell the first 100,000 vehicles and we have sold the last 100,000 since July of 2006.”

It has been nearly twenty-years since Land Rover North America began selling the vehicles and, as we all know, Land Rover is celebrating their sixtieth anniversary. They have come a long way down the American highway, from gray market Series II’s to the awesome (and surprisingly green) LRX.
