Land Rover is unveiling a commercial vehicle version of the Freelander at next month’s Commercial Vehicle Show in the UK. This version is expected to go on sale overseas as early as April, but it is not slated to reach US shores just yet, however.
The Freelander Commercial is based on the regular Freelander, but has the rear seats and side airbags removed and replaced with a full-height bulkhead, floor lashing points, fixed rear side glass, tail door and side window guards plus a rubber loadspace mat.
The Freelander van will be available in S and XS trim levels. In basic S specification the commercial vehicle makes do with basic four-wheel drive, while the XS trim adds the advanced Terrain Response 4x4 system from the passenger carrying Freelander and alloy wheels, powered folding mirrors, full size spare wheel, climate control and front parking sensors. The, um, horse is not included.
