You don’t want to mess with pig farmer Cameron Naughton’s beloved 19-year-old Land Rover. He won’t give it up without a fight…
Cameron Naughton was tending to his pig farm in rural Bishops Cannings, U.K. – you know, minding his own business – when he was shocked to see his beloved 19-year-old Land Rover leaving the yard.
So shocked, in fact, that he immediately jumped on his fork lift and gave chase. And, while his old Land Rover is only capable these days of hitting, maybe, 50mph across the plains, his forklift was only good for about 10mph. So he rang up the police and they gave chase.
“The police were brilliant,” he said, “they were on the trail straight away.”
The police put a helicopter in the air and tracked the stolen Rover across the plains on a back road and radioed ahead, where a waiting police car threw a stinger in the lane, which blew out the Rover’s two front tires. Still… the robbers kept going across the Salisbury Plain.
In hot pursuit, the police found the Rover abandoned and so employed their K-9 unit to search on foot, er, paw.
“I’m very grateful to them and it’s a great shame that so much police resource had to be used.”
As it was a working Land Rover, it contained tools, like a Honda generator, saws, hammers, pliers, etc., amounting to about six hundred pounds. Perhaps even more valuable, however, was a bright green notebook that contained years of records of his pigs.
Happily, his kitbag was found along the highway, and he has issued a plea for neighbors to be on the look out for that bright green notebook.
Four men have been arrested on suspicion and have been released on bail pending further inquiries. Police are hoping that this may put an end to the rash of rural crime that has been plaguing the area recently.
Evidently, they take this kind of thing fairly seriously in the U.K.
