The auction from the Dalai Lama Foundation on eBay is officially over. Faithful readers will recall that the auction featured three very rare and beautiful things:
* His Holiness’ 1966 Land Rover 88" Station Wagon (RHD)
* A three day Buddhism study session with the Dalai Lama himself in India (exact location to be disclosed)
* An up close and personal meeting with actress Sharon Stone at The Missing Peace Art Exhibition in San Francisco
The Land Rover
A true showpiece, this historic 1966 Land Rover was previously owned by the 14th Dalai Lama and used as his personal and official car from approximately 1966-1976 in Dharamsala, India. During that time it was the Dalai Lama's primary method of transportation, though he himself was always a passenger, not a driver. In this vehicle, the Dalai Lama visited many remote places in The Himalayas and India.
It underwent a complete restoration at West Coast British in Livermore, California; completely disassembled, cleaned, repaired and reassembled. Each individual nut and bolt was cleaned and replated for use in the restoration. The vehicle is now in immaculate condition, having been completely transformed back to its original luster, and will be featured in the upcoming issue of Land Rover Lifestyle Magazine as one of six Land Rovers in the U.S. that are considered among the most valuable in the world.
The vehicle is registered in California and has personalized plates that say "HHDL XIV" – how cool is that?
The Teaching Session
As a bonus, the winning bidder is invited to a rare and priceless study of Buddhism with the Dalai Lama himself in India in 2008. There are only about 150 people worldwide who will be invited to this session, so who knows? The winner might get more enlightened fun out of this than from the Rover.
Meeting With Sharon Stone
And speaking of rare and beautiful experiences, the winner will get to rub elbows with actress Sharon Stone at The Missing Peace: Artists Consider The Dalai Lama Art Exhibition show in Northern California. The winner and a guest will get a private tour of the art exhibit, two seats at the dinner, and a meet and greet with Sharon Stone that evening.
And the winning bid is…
$82,100! When you break it all down, that sounds like one heck of a bargain. (Especially when you consider the book rights…)
