A cargo ship containing roughly 1200 Jaguar Land Rover vehicles has been grounded off the coast of England after acquiring a severe list upon its departure from Southampton.
The 51,000 ton vessel, the Hoegh Osaka, was initially headed to Germany. Now, it sits deliberately grounded so as to avoid sinking, on a small isle off the South coast of England called Bramble Bank.
The ship now sits at a 45 degree angle on a shallow sandbar near the small isle. Salvage operators are now assessing the situation and will begin recovering the cargo and potentially attempting to right the hull.
JLR’s spokesperson did not provide any breakdown of the inventory on board, though they did offer that it’s likely the lion’s share of the Land Rovers are Evoques.
There ship's 25 crew members were all rescued with only a few suffering minor injuries.
