Praise for the Range Rover Evoque continues as the “Baby Range” was recently honored as the 2011 Scottish Car of the Year in Glasgow, Scotland.
The Range Rover Evoque won best in class for the SUV/Crossover category, edging out notable competition from the popular BMW X3 Crossover. The SUV win placed the Evoque in a final pool of vehicles from eleven other vehicle classification categories including: Small Car, Family Car, Estate Car, Executive Car, MPV, Convertible, Diesel Car, Sports Car, Electric Car, Eco Car and Most Iconic Car.
Jaguar Land Rover showed very well at this year’s Scottish Awards, receiving honors in 5 of 13 categories: the Jaguar XF (Best Diesel), the Jaguar XKR-S (Best Sport) and the Jaguar E-Type (Most Iconic Car) to go along with the two Evoque victories. If a casual observer didn’t know any better, it might seem plausible to assume some UK-bias. However, those privy to the goings-on at Jaguar Land Rover are aware that the massive amount of research and development that is fueling the growth of new Land Rovers is similarly enhancing the Jaguar vehicle lineup.
Just take a look at the XKR-S. 0-100 in 8.7 seconds. Nice.
John Murdoch, President of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers had the following comment regarding the Evoque’s victory:
“Some superb new cars entered the market during the past 12 months and our members had a tough time selecting the category winners. Manufacturers are responding to market challenges and continue to provide improvements in safety, emissions and economy at an astonishing rate.
One car stood out from all the others with its stylish good looks, sound packaging, fine driving dynamics and desirability and the Range Rover Evoque is a worthy winner of the Scottish Car of the Year title. With 18,000 advanced orders already in the bag it will provide job security for hundreds of people and generate huge exports for the British economy.”
Well. Maybe there’s a little UK favoritism at play…
