Land Rover’s brand new Discovery Sport has achieved the highest possible safety rating from the European safety agency NCAP.
The latest member of the Land Rover family incorporates several ground-breaking new safety features, including a pedestrian airbag that deploys across the bonnet, and the Autonomous Emergency Braking System, designed to apply the brakes when and if it detects that a collision is about to occur.
Quoting Murray Dietsch, Director of Land Rover Programmes, "The vehicle safety team worked tirelessly to ensure that the Discovery Sport delivered levels of safety never before seen in the small SUV segment.“
"All of our products are tested to stringent in-house safety standards that go significantly beyond the legal and consumer testing standards. As a family vehicle, safety was really a key motivator when designing this car. We are proud to have made no compromises on this."
Land Rover also included the usual plethora of safety related items: Dynamic Stability Control, Electronic Traction Control, Roll Stability Control, Anti-lock Braking Systems, Reverse Traffic Detection and Lane Departure as well as optional features such as Blind Spot Monitoring with Closing Vehicle Sensing, Active Speed Limiting, and Traffic Sign Recognition. Last but not least, the body shell is reported to support more than 4.5 times the vehicle weight. We’re not looking to test that claim anytime soon!
